Nicholas Chiorazzi

Nicholas Chiorazzi is a leading CLL biologist who established IGHV mutation status as a critical prognostic marker distinguishing CLL subtypes with fundamentally different clinical behaviors. His laboratory has extensively characterized B-cell receptor signaling in CLL and investigated the role of antigen exposure and microenvironmental interactions in CLL pathogenesis. He demonstrated that CLL cells expressing unmutated IGHV signal more strongly through their B-cell receptor, explaining their inferior prognosis. His biological discoveries have informed therapeutic targeting strategies and patient risk stratification.
