Naomi Halas invented gold nanoshell technology and developed its application to photothermal cancer therapy, leading to the AuroLase clinical platform. Her research demonstrated that gold nanoshells can be tuned to absorb near-infrared light, enabling selective tumor heating upon laser illumination. She co-founded Nanospectra Biosciences to translate gold nanoshell photothermal ablation into clinical trials for prostate and head/neck cancer.
