Miriam Mutebi

Miriam Mutebi is a leading surgical oncologist in East Africa who has documented the challenges of delivering cancer care in sub-Saharan Africa, including late-stage presentation, limited surgical capacity, and cultural barriers to cancer treatment, and has developed innovative programs to address these challenges through community engagement and task-shifting. Her clinical work at Aga Khan University Hospital has established standards for breast cancer surgical care in Kenya and has trained the next generation of African surgical oncologists. Her advocacy for equitable cancer care in Africa has influenced regional and global cancer policy.
