Murray Brennan at Memorial Sloan Kettering transformed the surgical management of soft tissue sarcomas, establishing principles of wide local excision with limb-sparing intent and defining the prognostic role of surgical margins. His large institutional series defined outcome predictors for retroperitoneal sarcoma and extremity tumors. He trained generations of sarcoma surgeons and authored the definitive textbook on sarcoma management.
