Mirella Bhatt focuses on malignant pleural mesothelioma, one of the most aggressive thoracic cancers with limited treatment options. Her research has characterized BAP1 and NF2 tumor suppressor loss in mesothelioma and their impact on immune evasion. She has led clinical trials evaluating immune checkpoint inhibitor combinations in mesothelioma, contributing to the approval of nivolumab plus ipilimumab in this disease. Her work also addresses early detection in high-risk asbestos-exposed populations.
