Lluis Mir is the inventor of electrochemotherapy, having demonstrated in 1991 that electric pulses dramatically enhance bleomycin cytotoxicity in tumors through membrane permeabilization, enabling curative treatment of previously resistant lesions. His foundational work established the principles of reversible electroporation for drug delivery and gene transfer that underpin all current clinical ECT and IRE applications. He continues to develop novel electroporation-based therapeutic modalities for cancer treatment.
