Mikala Egeblad

Mikala Egeblad uses advanced intravital microscopy to visualize and understand the dynamic interplay between cancer cells and the tumor stroma in real time. Her laboratory has made important contributions to understanding how neutrophils and other stromal cells remodel the extracellular matrix during cancer progression and metastasis. She has investigated how matrix metalloproteinases from stromal cells promote cancer cell invasion. Her imaging work reveals previously invisible dynamic processes in the tumor microenvironment that are relevant to developing anti-stromal therapeutic strategies.
