👥Biography 个人简介

Michele De Palma investigates how tumor endothelial cells and myeloid cells cooperate to sustain tumor angiogenesis and resist anti-VEGF therapy. His discovery of angiocrine functions of endothelial cells—where they instruct tumor cell behavior beyond blood supply—has opened new therapeutic concepts for targeting tumor vasculature.

🎓Key Contributions 主要贡献

Angiocrine Functions of Tumor Endothelium

Demonstrated that tumor endothelial cells secrete angiocrine factors that directly promote tumor cell survival and stemness independent of oxygen delivery, redefining endothelium as an active tumor-supporting compartment.

Myeloid Cell-Mediated Anti-VEGF Resistance

Showed that myeloid cells (TIE2-expressing monocytes) are recruited to tumors following VEGF blockade and restore angiogenesis via alternative pathways, identifying a key escape mechanism for combination targeting.

Tie2-expressing monocytes: regulation of tumor angiogenesis and therapeutic implications

Nature Medicine (2005)

Identified a distinct TIE2-expressing monocyte population that home to tumors and potently promote angiogenesis, revealing a myeloid bypass mechanism for anti-VEGF resistance.
