Michael Bhatt

Michael Bhatt leads research on population-level HBV vaccination programs and their long-term impact on HCC prevention. His epidemiological studies have demonstrated the dramatic reduction in HBV chronic infection rates and subsequently HCC incidence in birth cohorts that received universal neonatal HBV vaccination in Asian countries. He has evaluated barriers to achieving optimal HBV birth dose vaccine coverage in low- and middle-income countries where the burden of HBV-associated HCC is highest. His public health research directly informs global hepatitis B elimination programs that represent the most impactful cancer prevention strategy available.
