John Mendelsohn developed the concept of targeting the EGF receptor for cancer therapy and co-invented cetuximab which became one of the first approved monoclonal antibodies for solid tumors. He served as President of MD Anderson Cancer Center from 1996 to 2011 and founded its Institute for Personalized Cancer Therapy. His leadership shaped modern precision oncology.
