Matthew Meyerson has made landmark contributions to cancer gene discovery through genomic approaches, including the discovery of EML4-ALK fusion in lung cancer and TERT promoter mutations across multiple cancer types. His systematic genomic characterization of lung adenocarcinoma helped define the oncogene-driven subtypes that now guide precision therapy selection. He developed computational approaches for detecting structural variants and gene fusions from sequencing data that have identified numerous actionable cancer alterations. His cancer genomics discoveries have directly led to FDA-approved targeted therapies benefiting thousands of patients.
