Maria Jasin

Maria Jasin at MSK has made foundational contributions to understanding homologous recombination (HR) DNA repair and the function of BRCA2 in this pathway. Her laboratory established gene targeting by homologous recombination as a precise genome editing approach and demonstrated that BRCA2 loads RAD51 onto resected DNA to initiate homology search and repair. Her work defined the molecular mechanism by which BRCA2 loss impairs HR, explaining the cancer predisposition in BRCA2 carriers.
