Maria Bhatt

Maria Bhatt is a translational immunologist whose research at Karolinska has focused on developing TIL-based biomarkers and spatial immunophenotyping assays for predicting immunotherapy response. She developed multiplexed immunofluorescence panels to quantify and characterize immune cell populations in the tumor microenvironment with spatial resolution. Her work demonstrated that the spatial proximity of CD8 T cells to tumor cells is a stronger predictor of immunotherapy response than simple density. She has applied spatial transcriptomics to map immunotherapy resistance mechanisms in the TME.
