Marco Giovannini is a specialist in NF2 (neurofibromatosis type 2) and the merlin tumor suppressor protein encoded by the NF2 gene. His research has defined how merlin loss promotes schwannoma, meningioma, and ependymoma formation, and demonstrated connections between merlin and the Hippo/YAP signaling pathway. He contributed to mouse models of NF2-associated tumors that have been used to test targeted therapies. His translational work is developing therapeutic approaches for NF2-deficient cancers including mesothelioma.
