Marc Carrier has made significant contributions to the management of cancer-associated venous thromboembolism, including establishing evidence-based guidelines for IVC filter use, managing incidental pulmonary embolism in cancer patients, and screening for occult cancer in unprovoked VTE. His SOME trial definitively showed that extensive screening for occult cancer in unprovoked VTE does not improve cancer outcomes. He has contributed to understanding anticoagulation failure in cancer patients and the role of retrievable IVC filters. His clinical research guides practical VTE management decisions in oncology.
