Mani Menon at Henry Ford pioneered robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) — performing the first large series of robot-assisted prostatectomies using the da Vinci system and demonstrating that robotic surgery provided better functional outcomes (lower blood loss, faster recovery) compared to open surgery while maintaining equivalent oncological results. His VIP (Vattikuti Institute Prostatectomy) technique has been adopted worldwide.
