Douglas Lowy is Principal Deputy Director of the NCI and co-led with John Schiller the development of HPV L1 virus-like particle technology that became the foundation of FDA-approved HPV vaccines. Their work won the Lasker-DeBakey Clinical Medical Research Award in 2017. His research laid the biologic basis for cancer-preventing HPV vaccines.
