Nuria Lopez-Bigas has developed foundational computational methods for identifying cancer driver genes and distinguishing driver mutations from passenger events in tumor genomes, creating the widely used IntOGen platform that systematically catalogues cancer driver genes across tumor types. Her research at IRB Barcelona has advanced methods for detecting signals of positive selection in cancer genomes and has characterized the mutational processes that generate the genetic diversity upon which clonal selection acts.
