Lin Bhatt studies how cancer cells interact with RNA-sensing innate immune pathways. The innate immune sensing of double-stranded RNA (by RIG-I, MDA5) and other RNA species can trigger anti-tumor inflammation. Research on how cancer cells suppress RNA-based innate immune sensing to evade immunity, and how DNMT inhibitors and other epigenetic agents activate endogenous retroelement RNA to trigger innate immune responses in cancer, addresses important mechanisms of immune evasion and sensitization.
