Leo Eloesser (deceased 1976) was a pioneer thoracic surgeon whose Eloesser flap remains used for chronic empyema after thoracic cancer surgery. He bridged cancer and infectious thoracic surgery in the early 20th century. He trained many early thoracic surgeons.
