Lars Leksell was the Swedish neurosurgeon who coined the term stereotactic radiosurgery and invented the Gamma Knife in 1967. His work established a bloodless surgical alternative for intracranial targets using precisely converged cobalt-60 beams. His legacy founded the entire modern field of cranial radiosurgery.
