Lawrence Einhorn

Lawrence Einhorn developed the BEP (bleomycin, etoposide, cisplatin) chemotherapy regimen that transformed testicular cancer from a largely fatal disease into one of the most curable solid tumor malignancies. His landmark 1977 cisplatin-based regimen achieved cure rates exceeding 80% in advanced testicular cancer when nearly all patients had previously died from the disease. He has refined salvage chemotherapy strategies including high-dose chemotherapy with stem cell rescue for relapsed germ cell tumors. His contributions represent one of the most dramatic therapeutic advances in oncology history.
