Laurence Zitvogel at Gustave Roussy has made foundational contributions to understanding how the gut microbiome shapes systemic antitumor immune responses to immunotherapy and chemotherapy. She identified that Akkermansia muciniphila abundance correlates with improved responses to PD-1/PD-L1 blockade across tumor types. Her laboratory also discovered that cyclophosphamide relies on gut bacteria to drive antitumor immunity.
