Joan Lappe conducted one of the first randomized controlled trials demonstrating that vitamin D and calcium supplementation could reduce overall cancer incidence in postmenopausal women. Her 2007 and 2017 Creighton University trials provided critical experimental evidence complementing observational vitamin D-cancer studies. Her research has been instrumental in understanding the potential synergistic effects of vitamin D and calcium in cancer prevention.
