Antonio Lanzavecchia

Antonio Lanzavecchia is one of the most influential immunologists of his generation, whose work on T cell activation, differentiation, and memory has provided the fundamental understanding of T cell biology that underlies modern TCR-T cell therapy. His development of methods to clone and characterize antigen-specific human T cells has been widely adopted for identifying therapeutic TCR sequences from patient repertoires. His insights into the signals required for optimal T cell activation and the generation of long-lived memory T cells inform current efforts to improve the persistence and efficacy of TCR-T cell products.
