Simon Kramer was the founding chairman of the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) and a pioneer of cooperative group clinical trials in radiation oncology. He led the Patterns of Care Study that documented variability and quality in radiation oncology practice. His institutional leadership created the infrastructure of modern radiation oncology research.
