Alex Kostic was among the first to identify Fusobacterium nucleatum enrichment in colorectal cancer during his postdoctoral work and has since led research on microbiome contributions to colorectal carcinogenesis and metabolic disease. His Joslin laboratory uses metagenomics to connect gut microbiome signatures to cancer and diabetes risk.
