Felicia Knaul

Felicia Knaul co-chaired the Lancet Oncology Commission on Global Cancer Surgery that documented the devastating impact of cancer care access gaps in low- and middle-income countries, demonstrating that 80 percent of the global cancer burden falls on populations with access to less than 5 percent of global cancer treatment resources. Her research at the University of Miami has quantified the economic catastrophe that cancer diagnosis represents for families in LMICs and has designed health financing mechanisms to expand cancer treatment coverage. Her policy work has been transformative in placing cancer equity on the global health agenda.
