Kazunori Kataoka at the University of Tokyo is the world authority on polymeric micelle drug delivery systems. His block copolymer micelle technology has generated multiple clinically tested formulations including NK105 (paclitaxel-loaded micelles) and NK012 (SN-38 micelles), and his foundational contributions to exploiting the EPR (enhanced permeability and retention) effect in tumor drug delivery have defined the field of cancer nanomedicine in Japan and globally.
