Kenneth Kaushansky is the discoverer of thrombopoietin (TPO), the key regulator of platelet production, and has elucidated the MPL signaling pathway that is mutated in myeloproliferative neoplasms. His fundamental discoveries continue to inform therapeutic development targeting the TPO-MPL axis.
