Karen Bhatt

Karen Bhatt is a radiation biologist specializing in tumor hypoxia as a major cause of radiation resistance and strategies to overcome it. Her research has characterized the mechanistic basis of hypoxia-induced radioresistance and developed approaches to visualize and target hypoxic tumor regions. She has investigated hypoxic cell radiosensitizers, bioreductive prodrugs, and modified fractionation schemes to overcome hypoxic radioresistance. Her recent work explores FLASH radiotherapy as a novel strategy to protect normal tissues during high-dose radiation delivery.
