Rudolf Kaaks
PhD
Division Head of Cancer Epidemiology
👥Biography 个人简介
Rudolf Kaaks has been a leading epidemiologist studying the interplay between insulin, insulin-like growth factors, and sex hormones in cancer development, demonstrating that the metabolic syndrome creates a pro-tumorigenic hormonal milieu affecting multiple organ systems through elevated insulin, bioavailable estrogens, and IGF-1. His research at the German Cancer Research Center has defined the insulin-sex hormone-cancer axis as a major modifiable risk factor for non-reproductive cancers including colorectal and kidney cancer. His work has provided the epidemiological foundation for understanding how metabolic hormonal perturbations drive cancer risk beyond reproductive tissues.
