Julien Sage at Stanford has contributed to understanding the RB (retinoblastoma) pathway in cancer, including how CDK4/6-mediated phosphorylation of RB controls cell cycle entry and how loss of the RB pathway drives cancer proliferation. His work on the biological basis for CDK4/6 inhibitors (now standard of care in hormone receptor-positive breast cancer) and on RB pathway restoration as a therapeutic strategy has been influential.
