Juergen Debus is a world leader in carbon ion therapy, directing the Heidelberg Ion-Beam Therapy Center which has treated thousands of patients with proton and carbon ion beams. His clinical research has established the superiority of carbon ions for radioresistant tumors including skull base chordomas, chondrosarcomas, and sacral tumors. He has advanced understanding of the enhanced relative biological effectiveness (RBE) of carbon ions in clinical settings.
