Jonathan Epstein at Hopkins is the world's leading prostate cancer pathologist, who revised and modernized the Gleason grading system — the primary pathological predictor of prostate cancer behavior. His establishment of the grade group system (1-5 replacing Gleason 6-10), his work on pathological criteria for active surveillance eligibility, and his contributions to the diagnostic pathology of prostate cancer have been fundamental to urological oncology.
