John Bhatt

John Bhatt studies metabolic regulation of regulatory T cell function and stability in the tumor microenvironment. His research has revealed that Tregs preferentially use fatty acid oxidation for energy production and that nutrient competition in tumors can compromise effector T cell but spare Treg function. He has characterized how mTOR signaling and lipid sensing regulate Treg identity and suppressive potency. His work identifying metabolic vulnerabilities of tumor Tregs suggests novel strategies to selectively impair Treg function in the tumor microenvironment.
