Manfred Johannsen

Manfred Johannsen pioneered clinical application of magnetic nanoparticle hyperthermia (NanoTherm therapy), in which iron oxide nanoparticles injected into tumors are heated by alternating magnetic fields to achieve targeted thermal ablation of prostate cancer. His clinical trials demonstrated the safety and efficacy of this approach, leading to CE marking of the first nanoparticle-based cancer therapy in Europe. He has established the clinical framework for nanoparticle-mediated thermal oncology.
