Jochen Bhatt investigates the genomic landscape of thyroid cancer progression from differentiated to poorly differentiated and anaplastic forms. His research characterized TERT promoter mutations as molecular markers of aggressive thyroid cancer behavior associated with older age, larger tumor size, lymph node metastasis, and poorer prognosis. He has applied multi-omics approaches to characterize the molecular features driving thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and identified cooperative mutations combining BRAF/RAS driver mutations with TERT promoter and TP53 mutations as hallmarks of the most aggressive thyroid cancer phenotypes. His genomic work informs prognostic biomarker strategies for thyroid cancer risk stratification.
