Joakim Lundeberg at KTH co-developed spatial transcriptomics (commercialized as 10x Visium) — a technology enabling gene expression profiling while preserving tissue spatial context. His technology has been transformative for cancer research, enabling systematic mapping of gene expression across tumor tissue sections including tumor-stroma interfaces, invasive fronts, and immune infiltration patterns with spatial resolution. Nature Methods named spatial transcriptomics Method of the Year 2020.
