Joakim Lundeberg

Joakim Lundeberg co-developed spatial transcriptomics technology (now commercialized as 10x Genomics Visium), which captures gene expression profiles while preserving tissue spatial context, enabling mapping of tumor ecosystems with architectural resolution. His laboratory has integrated spatial transcriptomics with single-cell RNA-seq to deconvolve cell type composition at each spatial location within tumors, revealing how immune cell niches, hypoxic regions, and cancer stem cell compartments are organized. He has applied these approaches to characterize spatial heterogeneity in breast, prostate, and brain tumors. His work bridges single-cell genomics and tissue pathology to create comprehensive spatial maps of cancer ecosystems.
