Jianjun Chen has been instrumental in establishing the oncogenic role of m6A writer proteins METTL3 and METTL14 in acute myeloid leukemia. His work demonstrated that these enzymes maintain leukemia stem cell self-renewal by methylating key mRNAs involved in differentiation and apoptosis. He has pioneered the development of METTL3 inhibitors as a new class of anti-leukemia therapeutics.
