Jean Bourhis at Lausanne has made major contributions to head and neck cancer radiotherapy, including the MACH-NC (Meta-Analysis of Chemotherapy in Head and Neck Cancer) collaboration demonstrating the survival benefit of adding concomitant platinum-based chemotherapy to radiotherapy. His work on accelerated fractionation schedules and the optimization of chemoradiation for locally advanced HNSCC has informed international treatment guidelines.
