Jean Bourhis led the first-ever clinical application of FLASH radiation therapy in a human patient with an exceptionally high dose rate electron beam, demonstrating feasibility and remarkable sparing of normal tissue. His work has catalyzed the field of FLASH radiobiology and has contributed to understanding the potential oxygen depletion mechanism underlying differential normal tissue protection at ultra-high dose rates. He continues to lead clinical FLASH trials.
