Janet Rowley
MD
Late Blum-Riese Distinguished Service Professor
👥Biography 个人简介
Janet Rowley (1925-2013) was the pioneering cytogeneticist who discovered multiple chromosomal translocations in leukemia including t(8;21) in AML, t(15;17) in acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), and confirmed the nature of the Philadelphia chromosome translocation. Her fundamental discovery of t(15;17) directly led to the development of all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA) therapy for APL, one of oncology's greatest success stories. She is widely regarded as the mother of cancer cytogenetics.
