Jan Lotvall is a founding president of the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles and a pioneer in characterizing the functional cargo of exosomes. He demonstrated that exosomes transfer functional mRNA and miRNA between cells, establishing a new paradigm in intercellular communication relevant to cancer biology. His work on the RNA cargo of tumor-derived exosomes has informed biomarker development. He has also advanced EV-based therapeutic delivery platforms.
