Jan Karlseder

Jan Karlseder has made fundamental contributions to understanding telomere protection mechanisms and their failure in cancer. His work demonstrated how telomere crisis, triggered by critically short telomeres, generates chromothripsis and massive genomic rearrangements that fuel cancer genome evolution. He has revealed the molecular events linking telomere dysfunction to the breakage-fusion-bridge cycles that drive tumor heterogeneity.
