Jan Cools at VIB-KU Leuven is a leukemia geneticist who has made important contributions to characterizing kinase fusions and mutations that drive leukemia subtypes. His discovery of FIP1L1-PDGFRA fusion in hypereosinophilic syndrome and his contributions to the genetics of T-ALL and other leukemia subtypes have identified new therapeutic targets and contributed to WHO leukemia classification revisions.
