James Ntambi defined the role of stearoyl-CoA desaturase 1 (SCD1) in mammalian lipid biology. His work shows that many tumors are addicted to monounsaturated fatty acids generated by SCD1. He has guided development of SCD1 inhibitors as cancer therapeutics.
