James Holland

James Holland was a founding figure of clinical oncology in the United States who developed combination chemotherapy protocols for acute leukemia and other cancers. He pioneered multi-drug regimens including VAMP for childhood leukemia that transformed survival rates and established the principles of combination cytotoxic therapy. He co-founded the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group and helped create the cooperative group structure for large-scale cancer clinical trials. His career spanned six decades of clinical oncology development at the highest levels.
