James Downing led the landmark Pediatric Cancer Genome Project at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, providing comprehensive genomic characterization of pediatric cancers. His work identified new molecular subtypes of pediatric ALL and solid tumors that are now used to guide risk stratification and treatment. He discovered the ETV6-RUNX1 translocation and contributed to understanding ERG deletions in B-cell ALL. As CEO of St. Jude, he continues to champion genomics-driven advances in pediatric cancer research globally.
